Abstract

835,314. Torsional vibration - dampers. METALASTIK Ltd. May 5, 1958 [July 15, 1957], No. 22416/57. Class 108(3) In a torsional vibration-damper comprising an inertia ring 3 (Fig. 1 of Provisional Specification), a cup-shaped driving member 4 and an annular body of rubber 5, the wall 8 of the member 4 is radially expanded in assembly to precompress the rubber 5. Two cup-shaped members may be employed arranged backto-back, both side walls being radially expanded. The inertia ring may be of L- section with the radial limb of the L either in line with, or off-set from that of the inner member, both members being deformed to prestress the rubber which may incorporate an annular metal cuff. In Fig. 1 of the Complete Specification, the inertia ring 3 lies between flanges 22 and 20. In assembly, the cup-shaped members are radially expanded by a cylindrical taper plug.
