Abstract

588,332. Hydraulic accumulators. ELECTROL, Inc. Feb. 9, 1945, No. 3342. Convention date, March 23, 1944. [Class 69 (ii)] In a hydraulic accumulator a cylindrical receptacle 10 closed at one end contains a flexible metal bellows 12 secured within the cylinder, one of the securing members being in i the form of a sleeve 15 extending axially within the bellows 12 and provided with an opening 22 which is encircled by a resilient ring 25 ; the latter when coming into contact with the upper plate 26 of the bellows makes a liquidtight seal between the sleeve interior and the bellow space. The flexible bellows 12 move axially in and are secured at their flared end within the cylinder 10 by means of the sleeve 15 and the annular ring 14. Oil under pressure enters the bellows space through the screwed hole 22 in the upper end of the sleeve 15 compressing the air in the cylinder 10. When the pressure in the hydraulic system drops, the bellows collapse to the limit where the plate 26 is forced against the valve ring 25, trapping the remaining oil in the bellows and eliminating the possibility of complete collapse of the bellows structure.
