610,045. Stuffing-box substitutes. DESTOUMIEUX, P. Aug. 20, 1945, No. 21269. Convention date, June 14, 1944. [Class 122 (v)] A rubbing-collar packing device comprises a packing ring 1 connected to a resilient member 2 by an intermediate member 3. The resilient member has a neck portion 6 that is pressed into the shaft by a ring 4 and a spring 5 is located between the ring 4 and the intermediate member 3, a flange 8 on the ring 4 and a flange 7 on the member 3 limit the axial movement of these two parts. Several modifications of the shapes of the members 3 and 4 are described and alternatively the ring 1 and the member 3 may be integral. The resilient member 2 may be reinforced by a textile or metal insert 12 and may be bonded to the ring 4.
