[Class 122 (v)] A fluid seal comprises a flexible and resilient member having a sleeve portion 15 placed in a strained condition on the shaft and a flanged portion 17 connected to it by a yielding fold and engaging a fractional contact disc 14 ; a sleeve 22 extends over the disc and flange and engages the disc, e.g. by ribs and grooves, and provides an extensible driving connection between the disc and a ring 18 on the tightened portion, e.g. by projections 21 on the ring engaging slots in the sleeve. The sleeve 22 is shouldered to press a thin disc 26 against the flange 17 of the flexible member, and is itself subject to the pressure of a spring 30 abutting on a ring 31 engaging a shoulder 29 on the shaft. The frictional disc 14 may have an extension next the shaft to support the flange 17 of the flexible seal. The sleeve 22 may be formed with a flange for abutment of the spring 30, and the ring 31 may be supported from the shaft by a groove and snap ring. The ring 18 may be held between shoulders in the sleeve portion 15.
