631,953. Stuffing-box substitutes. CRANE PACKING CO. Aug. 22, 1946, No. 25067. Convention date, Aug. 4, 1945. [Class 122(v)] A seal between relatively rotating elements comprises a resilient packing 29 pressed on to a shaft 12 by a sleeve 38; a flexible sleeve 32 clipped to the sleeve 38 by a flange 39, is pressed against a sealing ring 21 by a garter spring 37 which embraces the sleeve 32, and the ring 21 is pressed against a surface 23 on an endplate 17 of a housing 14. The ring 21 is splined to the sleeve 38 at 26, for joint rotation therewith.
