Abstract
573,911. Stuffing-box substitutes. HOWARD, WILSON, Ltd., and JONES, D. G. June 9, 1944, No. 9117/43. [Class 122 (v)] In a shaft seal of the kind comprising a sealing ring 4 attached to the inner or outer margin of a diaphragm 2 and a casing ring 3, attached to the other margin, said ring 4 being pressed against a relatively movable member by a spring 5, the diaphragm is sufficiently limp to lie against a seating 11 on the ring 3 under fluid pressure without affecting the sealing ring. Furthermore the diameters of the sealing ring and the zone at which it is secured to the diaphragm are such that fluid pressure on the ring is either balanced or assists the action of the spring. Specification 564,720 is referred to.
