Abstract

618,167. Stuffing-box substitutes. NICHOLS, T. W. Oct. 30, 1946, Nos. 32169/46 and 13622/47.. [Class 122 (v)] In a packing assembly for a rotary shaft, Fig. 1, two metallic rubbing rings 8 are bonded and inseparately attached to flexible bushes 9 squeezed in driving contact with a shaft 6 by spring rings 10, the rubbing rings being pressed axially outwards into contact with respective rubbing surfaces 7, 11 by a spring 12. The packing assembly is located inside a stuffing- box 4 and subjected to oil under pressure through a passageway 14.
