Abstract

567,346. Stuffing-box packing. DE HAVILAND AIRCRAFT GO., Ltd., WALKER & CO., Ltd., J., WARDE, R. H., and WATSON, T. F. July 5,1943, No. 10908. [Class 122 (v)] A packing, e.g. between the blade 28 and hub 32 of a variable pitch airscrew, comprises a resilient packing ring 10 of H section pressed axially by fluid pressure into engagement with a wedge ring 18, whereby the lips of the packing are expanded into sealing engagement with adjacent parts. The rings may be formed of natural or synthetic rubber and garter springs may be used on any or all of the flanges of the H section ring. The taper of the wedge ring may be greater than that of its co-operating groove when in the packing position.
