Abstract

562,922. Oil seals. PETCH, H. F. Jan. 18, 1943, No. 895. [Class 122 (v)] An oil seal of internal or external type comprises rings 11, 12 clamped together to form a rigid annulus serving to transmit axial pressure and having a radial recess between, them to ' accommodate a flange 14 on the sealing ring, which is provided at its extremity with an upturned flange 23 and a garter spring 24. The space between the flange 23 and ring 11 is so small as to prevent displacement of the spring 24 in use. A bead 15 on the flange 14 extends into a recess in the ring 11. In another construction the clamping ring 35 is provided with a further radial recess 38 to house the garter spring 44 which surrounds a radial flange 33 on the sealing ring.
