Abstract

958,505. Rotary joints. W. MURRAY. Sept. 15, 1960, No. 31866/60. Addition to 858,507. Heading F2G. In the rotary union described in the parent Specification and comprising relatively rotatable hollow shaft 5 and casing member 1, the shaft being carried in bearings 6 and a rotary sliding contact seal consisting of a floating member 18 sealed to a bellows 19 fixed to the casing 1 or the shaft 5 the co-operating member 16 of the seal being carried by the shaft 5 or the casing 1, the floating member 18 provides a ring area a radially inwardly of the inner periphery of the bellows on which the fluid will exert axial pressure towards the member 16 to counterbalance tendency for the member 18 to break or reduce contact pressure with increase in fluid pressure.
