Abstract

679,481. Stuffing-box packing. ALGEMEENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. July 18, 1949 [Oct. 9, 1948], No. 18893/49. Class 122(v) A resilient packing ring particularly for sealing a rotatable shaft is waisted in section in the radial direction and the outer and inner axially extending surfaces are concave. A packing ring 1 comprises an outer crescent-shaped portion 2 and an inner portion 3. A cooling or lubricating liquid opening 11 may be provided. A double packing may be formed as shown in the lower half of Fig. 2. The packing is inserted in a stuffing-box and compressed by a gland 4 or held under constant pressure by a lip 5.
