Abstract

1,017,476. Mechanical seals. M. AMIR. AULT & P. DESTOUMIEUX. Feb. 18, 1964 [Feb. 22, 1963], No. 6791/64. Heading F2B. In a seal between relatively rotatable parts 1, 8 in which a sealing ring 7 of synthetic material is connected to one of the members by a rubber &c. diaphragm 2 and urged into facial sealing contact with the other by a spring 4, the diaphragm is reinforced adjacent the ring 7 by a metal ring 9, part of which is embedded in the diaphragm. As shown in Fig. 2, the diaphragm is secured to the shaft 1 against a shoulder 1a thereon by a ring 3 and the spring 4 is compressed between the ring 3 and a thrust ring 5. A casing 6 clamps the diaphragm between the rings 5 and 7. In Fig. 6 (not shown), the sealing ring 7 engages the shoulder 1a and is connected by the diaphragm 2 to a casing 11 which is force-fitted in a bore in the member 8 and has lugs 10 that engage splines 12 in the ring 7.
