Abstract

1,161,529. Piston and shaft seals. TRIST MOULDINGS & SEALS Ltd. 17 April, 1968 [22 May, 1967], No. 23703/67. Headings F2B and F2T. A shaft or piston sealing ring comprises a rubber ring 1 and a single backing ring 4 of laminated fabric impregnated with rubber which is bonded to one end of the rubber ring and extends around either the inner or outer periphery, being either surrounded by, or surrounding, an annular tongue 3 of the rubber ring. In the shaft seal shown in Fig. 1, the backing ring 4 is on the inner periphery of the rubber ring 1. For a piston ring Fig. 2 (not shown), the backing ring (7) is on the outer periphery of the rubber ring (6).
