Abstract

562,125. Oil seals. GUEST, L. J. Nov. 30, 1942, No. 17029. [Class 122 (v)] The lip or lips 5 of a moulded packing ring having a conical bore and of U, Fig. 1, or double U, Fig. 4, section are pressed on the shaft by a conical ring or rings 8. The latter are retained by extensions 6 on the packing and may be of elliptical form to permit passage of oil to the lips 5 through the spaces between the packing and the narrow parts of the rings. The packing may be provided with a metal casing 12 and reinforcing rings 15, 16.
