Abstract

1,219,272. Shaft seals. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 29 May, 1968 [30 May, 1967], No. 24775/67. Heading F2B. In a shaft sealing ring 1 comprising an elastomeric sealing lip 7 having an annular sealing area 8 for engagement with the shaft, the lip is formed on one side 11 of the area 8 with a series of grooves 13 which are of dovetail cross-section and, in use, act to pump back leakage oil. The sealing ring 1 comprises a U-section of elastomeric material bonded to a metal ring 3 and the lip 7 is urged inwardly by a garter spring 10
