Abstract

878,859. Stuffing-box substitutes. WESTON & CO. Ltd., CHARLES. July 11, 1960 [Jan. 19, 1960], No. 1855/60. Class 122 (5). In a shaft-sealing ring comprising a U-section rubber &c. ring bonded within a metal casing consisting of segments 11, 12, having their adjacent ends slightly spaced, the rubber ring being split at 15 between adjacent ends 16, 17 so that the sealing ring may be opened by flexing the rubber in the space 18 between the other ends to allow lateral assembly on the shaft to be sealed, the ends of the inner flange 13 of the rubber ring at the split 15 are connected to the outer flange at points spaced from the split by integral webs 19 and 20. Additional webs 22 in the form of two oppositelydirected series meeting at a point 23 adjacent the space 18 may be provided.
