[Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] In a compound packing ring for a piston or stuffing-box the plane self-expanding members 16, 17; 18 and 19 are pressed axially by an expander 20 which is relatively thin axially but is radially deep and is characterized in that the corrugators are of flat-topped formation when viewed edgewise in elevation.
