[Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] A piston or stuffing-box packing comprises one or more carbon rings 2 expanded by an independent resilient metal ring 1 of the same width. Projections may be provided on either the metal or carbon rings to engage similar recesses in the other ring, and such projection being of rectangular or dovetail form. Specification 427,993 is referred to.
