Abstract

505,024. Stuffing - box paching; piston packing. PHILLIPS, T. L. Nov. 3, 1937, No. 30046. [Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] An axially compressible packing ring 14 is supported in an L-section carrier ring 9 having ducts 11, 12, 13, 20 for passage of working fluid to the back of the packing. The passages may pass through the carrier ring. Further carrier rings may be superposed on the ring 9 and the faces 22 supporting the packing rings may be bevelled. The bottom faces of the additional carrier rings are not grooved.
