561,321. Stuffing-box packing; piston packing. HALL & HALL, Ltd., and DRYSDALE, A. Nov. 2, 1942, Nos. 14644/43 and 14645/43. Divided out of 561,189. [Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] A stuffing-box or piston packing comprises a flexible member 15 mounted on a rigid member 11 adapted to be spaced axially apart from another rigid member, e.g. a rigid ring or the side of the packing groove, by a spacing means 10. The latter may comprise the axial flange of a T-shaped member and may be castellated or perforated for the passage of pressure fluid. Alternatively pillars arranged annularly and extending between rigid rings may be used as spacing means. In another form the axial flange 12 of an L section ring, Fig. 13, forms the spacing means and this flange may be provided with flexible packing rings 31 to engage the wall of the packing groove.
