[Also in Division F1] In a fluid pressure operated piston and cylinder assembly eccentricity of the surfaces is accommodated by a flexible member or members having an axial length greater than the radial thickness and located between the piston and piston rod and/or the piston rod and its guide. In Fig. 2, the piston and piston-rod are formed respectively with shoulders 16, 12 against which the flexible members 17 are axially compressed by means of a nut 13 screwed on the piston-rod so that the members are forced radially into tight engagement with the piston and piston-rod. In modifications, (a) the flexible members are axially compressed against opposite sides of a shoulder on the piston-rod by means of rings screwed into opposite ends of the piston; (b) the piston and piston-rod are glued to a single flexible member; (c) a flexible member 4, Fig. 4, is axially compressed by a nut 13 against a shoulder 24 on a hollow piston rod provided with passages 25, 26 for the flow of pressure fluid to the cylinder which slides in a slideway 29. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, a piston-rod 35 slides in a bearing sleeve 34 held by a cover plate 31 in one end of a cylinder 30, the sleeve 34 being flexibly held in a sleeve 32 by means of a flexible member 33 which is compressed by a member 37. Alternatively, the member 33 is housed directly in the cylinder. A number of axially disposed bearing sleeves and flexible members may be provided.
