Abstract

520,237. Pistons. BENDIX, Ltd., and ROBERTS, G. P. Oct. 14, 1938, No. 29762. [Class 122 (i)] A piston for use in a fluid pressure cylinder such as the master or brake cylinder in an hydraulic braking system is constructed of an annular sealing member e of rubber or other flexible material housed in an annular groove c in the piston a which is connected by grooves d with the pressure side of the piston. The ring e is of hollow cross section and the thickness of the ring is a minimum at the line of contact with the cylinder, the upper surface of the ring being of convex form. A metal ring g may be provided to keep the centre of the ring in contact with the cylinder wall. In a modification, the ring is solid of circular cross-section, and the fluid pressure keeps the ring in contact with the sides of the grove c and the cylinder wall.
