Abstract

672,833. Hydraulic brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. March 13, 1951 [March 13, 1950], No. 6258/50. Class 103 (i). In a master-cylinder of the type comprising tandem main and floating pistons 26, 15 forming separate working spaces 32, 23, these spaces communicate with separate chambers 9, 8, respectively, in the reservoir 6, each through an opening fitted with a tilting valve 41 which is held open by the engagement with its stem 44 of the associated piston when in the retracted position. The pistons are formed with annular spaces 29, 22 communicating with the valves, and also with the respective working spaces through passages 31, 21. Rearward movement of the main piston 26 is limited by a stop-ring 34 at the end of the cylinder, and of the floating piston 15 by a stoppin 25 projecting through the cylinder wall. Other forms of valve operated, for example, by cam surfaces on the pistons may be used instead of the tilting valves.
