815,973. Piston and stuffing-box packing. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Nov. 22, 1955 [April 26, 1955; June 23, 1955],No. 13468/58. Divided out of 815,971, Classes 122 (1) and 122 (5). A sealing device between a sliding rod or piston and a cylinder containing fluid under pressure comprises a resilient packing ring which is constituted by a central portion 2, Fig. 3, a larger annular portion 1 which widens out from the portion 2 to form a static packing portion so mounted in one of the relatively slidable members as not to cause expansion of the ring, and two rims 6 which diverge from the central portion so as to form the sliding packing portion and at their junction with the central portion are provided with a groove 9 to increase their flexibility. As shown in Fig. 3, the ring is clamped between two discs 3, 4 forming the piston and as shown in Fig. 4 is mounted in a stuning box, the rims 11, 15 then acting respectively as packing and scraper members.
