[Also in Groups XXII and XXX] A pneumatic jack comprises a cylinder 1, a base-plate 2, a cylinder head 4, a cover 5 and an integral piston and piston-rod 8, 9 which are all produced by pressure die casting or by the lost-wax process of casting of plastics material or light metal Resilient packing rings 22 are provided to seal the ends of the cylinder and to form buffers for the piston at the ends of its travel. The resilient piston packing ring 10 is provided with an inner portion 14, 16 shaped to engage an annulus 16 in the piston, and a pair of lips 17, 18 which press against the cylinder wall. The piston packing may alternatively be similar to that described in Specification 815,971.
