474,055. Piston, stuffing - box, and joint-making packing. ONIONS, J. H. April 27, 1936, No. 11875. [Classes 122 (i), 122 (iii), and 122 (v)] A packing for use in a shock-absorber comprises a soft rubber &c. ring 21, 24 accommodated in a groove in one member, e.g. a piston 13, to be sealed and compressed between the bottom of the groove and the other member, the width of the ring initially being less than that of the groove whereby fluid pressure has access to the space 22 between ring and groove. The groove may be arranged in the outer member 10. The ring 18, Fig. 2, is shown as applied to the cap 11 of a shock absorbing strut cylinder 10. Specifications 8149/95, [Class 122], 432,882, and 461,577 are referred to.
