521,163. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. TRIGGS, W. W. (Gabriel Co.). Nov. 10, 1938, No. 32661. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] An hydraulic shockabsorber for motor cars is provided with sealing devices 238, 240 and 246 for preventing escape of oil along the piston rod. The seal 238 in the pressure cylinder 229 comprises an elastic sleeve held, in position by a plate 239, and the seal 240 in the oil reservoir is retained between two conical plates 241, 242 pressed together by a spring 245. The seal 246 in a reduced end 232 of the cylinder is also under the compression of the spring 245 acting on a conical plate 247. The surface of the seal around the piston rod may be serrated or grooved and the seals may surround the rod with an initial compression.
