Abstract

1288704 Piston and cylinder assemblies; telescopic tubes NEW-INVENT SA 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 22177/71 Headings F2P and and F2T [Also in Division F1] A telescopic piston and cylinder unit for use in a reciprocating fluid machine or as a swivel coupling, comprises a hollow piston 12 telescopically slidable in a cylinder 10, the open outer ends of the piston and cylinder being engageable with seating bodies 18, 20 at least one of which has a spherical seating surface 22 or 24 for engagement with an internal conical surface 28 or 30 on the cylinder or piston. The circular line of contact 32 between the respective seating and conical surfaces is chosen such that pressure within the assembly produces a resultant axial force which combines with a spring 44 in maintaining the surfaces in contact.
