Abstract

1323082 Adjustable seat backs AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO Ltd 16 June 1971 [22 June 1970] 30192/70 Index F2S 31 [ Also in Division E2] An adjustable hydraulic seat stay has a hollow plunger 17 having an apertured end 23 in which slides a fixed tube 31 connecting at 37 to a control valve 47 operable through pin 49 from the seat, e.g. by another hydraulic link (19, 20, 20a) Fig. 1, (not shown), to communicate to passage 42 and so allow fluid to pass between space 29 in the plunger and space 43 is the cylinder 16. Pressure is applied to the fluid by compressed gas forced through valve 57 into space 28, to act on the fluid through a free piston 26 sliding in the hollow plunger. Radial bores 51 allow passage of fluid to equalize the pressure when the device is fully extended. A screw-adjusted sleeve 52, with ball detent 54, limits the degree of compression of the device. In Fig. 3 (not shown) this is done by a stepped stop.
