824,964. Stuffing-box substitutes. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO. Ltd. Aug. 16, 1957 [Nov. 2, 1956], No. 33455/56. Class 122 (5). The piston rod 1 of a telescopic hydraulic shock absorber is packed by a rubber sealing ring 5 having a step 5a co-operating with a corresponding step 2a on the piston rod guide 2, the minor outer surface 5c of the ring being a liquid-tight fit in the piston rod guide 2 and the major outer surface 5d fitting only sufficiently tightly in the guide to maintain contact therewith. The ring 5 is serrated in its inner peripheral surface and is located by a plate 6. Specifications 670,128 and 709,338, [both in Group XXXII], are referred to.
