767,784. Piston packing; stuffing box substitutes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Nov. 23, 1954 [Dec. 21, 1953], No. 33940/54. Classes 122 (1) and 122 (5). Packing for use be. tween relatively movable members, such as a piston 11 or piston rod and a cylinder 10 or a rotary shaft and its housing, comprises a continuous, sealing ring 15 slidably fitted in an annular groove 11a in one of the members and urged into sealing contact with the other member by a continuous resilient ring 16 compressed between the bottom of the groove and the sealing ring which is radially thicker at its end portions than at its centre portion and is made of stiffer material than the resilient ring 16. The rings 15 and 16 are preferably of polytetrafluoroethylene and silicone rubber respectively.
