Abstract
420,943. Pistons ; stuffing boxes. MADSEN, T., 30, Stampgatan, Gothenburg, Sweden. Dec. 11, 1933, No. 34762. Convention date, Nov. 25. [Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] Piston or stuffing- box packing comprises two split rings having conical mutually engaging surfaces, which have opposite inclinations at the split and at the part opposite the split. As shown in Fig. 2, the higher edge 5<a> of the conical surface adjacent the slit 3 is inside the ring while opposite the slit the higher edge 5<b> is outside the ring. In the modifications shown in Figs. 4 and 6 each conical surface comprises two portions separated by an axial shoulder 7. The higher edge may be inside at the split and outside opposite the split as shown in Fig. 4, or vice versa, as shown in Fig. 6. The width of the rings at the inner periphery may be made uniform as shown in Fig. 6. Fire and scraper rings may be similarly constructed.
