Abstract

151,554. Davies, W. H. March 23, 1920. Piston packing.-A split packing-ring a is recessed at diagonally opposite corners to accommodate a second split packing-ring b and to form a flange on which the fluid pressure acts to expand the ring. The piston-head is reduced in diameter to accommodate the flange of the ring a and is formed with cut-away portions, as shown, to admit the pressure to the back of the flange. The ring is also pressed axially by the fluid pressure.
