264,218. Doxford, R. P., and Keller, K. O. Oct. 12, 1925. Piston packing. - The piston 1 of an internal-combustion engine is packed by rings 2 mounted in grooves 3. Narrow annular grooves 7 are provided to form flexible tongues 8 which are pressed by pressure fluid on the packing-rings to prevent leakage past the rings 2. In a steam-engine piston, two heads are provided with the tongues arranged on the outside of the packing grooves.
