Abstract

634,507. Stuffing-boxes. WEIR, Ltd., G. & J., HILLIER, H., and SMITH, A. C. March 29, 1947, No. 8583. [Class 122(v)] A stuffing-box for a fluid pressure engine incorporates a cylindrical casing 5 movable axially in the stuffing box, channel-form metallic packing rings 6, and floating resilient backing and sealing rings 7 between the metallic packing rings and the internal wall of said casing. The construction of the stuffing box is of the type shown in Specification 625,758 having a subsidiary packing 4, a pressure relief duct 10, a gland 8, auxiliary gland 12 and auxiliary packing 3. It is shown fitted in a pump casing of the type shown in Specification 541,635 which is provided with a cooling chamber 13 and a cooling recess 16.
