Abstract

1420491 Shaft seals BRITISH NUCLEAR FUELS Ltd 6 March 1974 [15 March 1973] 12563/73 Heading F2B A rotary shaft 1 is sealed where it extends into a low pressure space 6 (in which it carries pump impeller 9) by two groups of oppositelyfacing seals and grease, packed between retainer 15 and sleeve 17 protects the seals 12, inside the space 6, from corrosion by the gas in this space. The internal seal 12 adjacent the boundary of space 6 is reversed with respect to the remainder of this group. The leakage through the seals may be monitored by a pressure-sensing probe in the space 22.
