1474861 Shaft seals DURAMETALLIC CORP 7 Oct 1975 [7 Oct 1974] 41091/75 Heading F2B In an end face seal construction, a radially floating bushing seal 54 is used to back-up the end face seal 17, 42 so that, in the event of failure of the latter, the resulting leakage along the shaft 13 is controlled by the bushing seal 54. The seal 54, which may be of carbon, has a secondary sealing interface 53, 56 under axial pressure from springs 58 and the pressure of treating liquid or coolant in space 55.
