Abstract

1461231 Shaft seals WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 6 Jan 1975 [17 Jan 1974] 379/75 Heading F2B A dual end face seal for the shaft 18, of e.g. a butterfly valve in a Boiling Water Reactor power plant, has metal foil bellows 90, 92, for each of two rings 44, 46, which seal against the opposite sides of flange 34. The rings 44, 46 may be of carbon with polished sealing faces 88 and 86. Pressurized uncontaminated steam is introduced into seal chamber 32 through duct 100, at a pressure higher than that of the contaminated steam within the valve.
