Abstract
A mechanical seal for a shaft 4 comprises a sealing ring 8 freely-removably housed in a recess 6 in one end of a bellows 1 and extending therefrom to terminate in a sealing face 10. The other end of the bellows is clamped to the shaft by a ring 3 and the ring 10 is urged into sealing contact with a co-operating sealing ring 12 by a spring 15 compressed between the ring 3 and a flange 14 of a protective sleeve 13. The base 7 of the recess 6 is angled to receive an angled recess 9 in the ring 8. The bellows 1 is of P.T.F.E. and the ring 8 may be of glass or asbestos filled P.T.F.E., carbon, ceramic or stainless steel.
