Abstract

1304829 Oscillating-shaft seals UNITED STIRLING (SWEDEN) AB & CO KB 11 Sept 1971 42456/71 Heading F2B [Also in Division F1] An oscillating shaft 14 of a hot gas engine extends from a pressurized chamber 1 through a seal in the wall of the chamber, the seal comprising an elastically deformable sealing element 26 which is torsionally deformed by the oscillating motions of the shaft. The gas pressure presses the rings 20 and 23 as well as the rubber 26 against the cover 17. Oil under pressure may be introduced through the bore 19. The rubber 26 is vulcanized to the rings 20, 23 which are connected respectively to the shaft and housing by dog clutches 21, 24.
