Abstract

606,316. Stuffing-boxes. MURRAY, W. Jan. 26, 1946, No. 2652. [Class 122 (v)] A sealing device for insertion between a rotating and a non-rotating component comprises two circular flanges 1, 2 dog-clutched together in non-rotating relationship but slidable axially and pressed apart by a spring 12 which also serves to guide the clutch elements. A bellows 13 of metal or fabric fixed to the flanges surrounds the spring 12. The flange 2 is dowelled to the fixed component by dowel pins 9 and is provided with a face seal 6a. Mounted in the flange 1 is a sealing ring 5 which bears against a sealing surface on the rotating component under the action of the spring 12.
