Abstract
593,271. Stuffing - box substitutes. MORGAN, J. S. MORGAN, H. S., and GAMMON, J. C. May 29, 1945, No. 13399. [Class 122 (v)] A sealing gland for a rotary shaft which projects through an opening in a radial wall in a casing, consists of a tubular rubber element, one end of which constitutes a sleeve a held fast on the shaft e by its own elasticity, while the other end b bears directly against and makes elastic sealing with the wall f of the casing. The end b may be a solid bead or it may lead to a radial enlargement having an axial portion engaging the wall f. Alternatively, the wall may be engaged by a conical enlargement on the sleeve a or by an inwardly directed conical flange on a radial enlargement of the sleeve. In another form, the tubular element is doubled back on itself within the sleeve a, Fig. 4, forming a hollow bead b.
