Abstract

828,940. Pipe couplings, UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Feb. 12, 1958 [March 26, 1957], No. 9818/57. Class 99(1). A pipe coupling comprises flanges 3 screwed on pipes 1, 2 which are internally expanded into the screw threads of the flanges, the screw threads being protected from contact with fluid in the pipes by welding the end of each pipe to its corresponding flange as at 12. A sealing ring 7 is inserted in a closed annular cavity 6 formed by the mating faces 4 of the flanges which are clamped together by bolts 8 and nuts 9. Jacking screws 15 serve to separate the flanges.
