1294859 Pipe couplings PJT ENG CO Ltd 2 June 1970 [7 June 1969 1 Jan 1970] 28926/69 and 7/70 Heading F2G A pipe coupling has a cylindrical body with coupling parts 5 at each end, each coupling part 5 having two coaxial cylindrical walls forming an annular recess 6 into which the ends of pipe lengths 7 may be coupled and secured. As shown the pipe coupling can be made from a pair of concentric metal cylinders 1, 2 welded together at their mid points 3, 4 and the ends of pipes 7 are secured to the tubing coupling by screws 9 passing through holes in the outer cylinder 1 and corresponding holes in the pipes 7 and engaging tapped holes in the cylinder 2 so that when tightened the walls of the coupling parts 5 firmly engage the ends of the pipes 7. Protrusions 11 prevent the heads of the screws 9 from being damaged by contact with other bodies outside of the coupling. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the pipes 7 may be corrugated and tongues of metal (13) on one or more of the cylinders 1, 2 may engage these corrugations so that the pipes may be screwed into the coupling. In a further modification one of both walls of the coupling parts 5 may be corrugated so that they engage the corrugations of the pipes 7. In these embodiments screws 9 arranged as shown above may be used as a means of securing the coupling and pipe when fully threadedly engaged. A sealing compound may be present in the recesses 6 to produce a gas tight joint.
