Abstract

1,032,469. Insulated chimneys. M. BEAUMONT. Dec. 15, 1964 [Dec. 23, 1963], No. No. 50615/63. Heading F4J. An insulated chimney unit comprises inner and outer shells, the space between being filled with powdered insulation material, e.g. expanded perlite, the ends forming an effective spigot and socket joint. As shown, the unit comprises an inner tube 1 supported by ring 11 and expansion ring 8 on asbestos gaskets 9, 10, 12, 13 to prevent metal-to-metal contact with outer shell 2. Shell 2 is provided with end flange plates 4A, 4B with bolt holes 5, units being bolted together with the lower portion of tube 1, having sealing rings 14, 15 entering the opening formed by expansion ring 8 of the unit below, and forming optionally a gap therewith. The space 3 is filled with the powdered insulation material pneumatically through pipes 16, or the insulation is inserted during assembly. A modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), has an allwelded construction where the inner and outer tubes 1, 2 are welded to end flange plates 4A, 4B. A base section has a lateral insulated inlet pipe connection 17 and a cleaning door 24, Fig. 2 (not shown).
