Abstract
1,001,939. Pipes and pipe-couplings. TAYLOR TUBE SEAL Inc. Aug. 5, 1964 [Aug. 15, 1963], No. 31805/64. Headings F2G and F2P. Sections of pipe 1 and 2 have corrosion resisting linings 7 and 8 which initially project a short distance beyond each end of each pipe section: the linings are temporarily held in position by means not shown whilst their ends are heated and flared outwards over annular rings 9 and 10 outside the liner end and abutting the end of the pipe 1 or 2 and a ferrule 15 or 16 is inserted into the heated liner end whilst it is still plastic; the temporary securing means then being released from each liner and the pipes 1 and 2 joined by a coupling 6 which is threaded on to the end of each pipe and when tightened compresses a cylindrical resilient gasket 19 between the ferrules 15 and 16 to form a seal. Fig. 2 shows the exploded assembly at its left-hand side and the completed assembly, less the gasket, at its righthand side. The gasket 19 is compressed between the conical faces 20 and 21 of the ferrules and does not intrude inwards beyond their inner diameters, which are the same as the inner diameter of the linings. The linings are of polypropylene and are given a clearance between their outer diameter and the inner diameter of the pipes 1 and 2 to allow for expansion. The ferrules are of K-Monel metal. Fig. 4 shows the heated former 29 which is forced into the lining by a handoperated jack (Fig. 3, not shown) to flare the end 34a.
