Abstract

1,212,767. Pipe joints; joint-making packing. SOC. D'ETUDES ET DE DEVELOPPEMENT DES INDUSTRIES MODERNES. 26 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 14592/68. Headings F2B and F2G. A connecting device for a pair of tubes comprises end pieces 1, 2 for the tubes having annular grooves 7, 8 in the end faces thereof and adapted to be connected together with the grooves opposite one another to form a housing, a sealing ring 9 of hard material, e.g. stainless steel, for seating in the housing and a sheet 11 of ductile material, such as copper in each groove adapted to be clamped between a wall of the groove and a convex face 10 of the sealing ring to effect a fluid-tight seal. The face 10 may comprise a plurality of annular beads and the members 11 may be in the form of washers and, as shown, include flanges 12. In modifications, (a) the ring 9 has a ductile or plastics material deposited on both faces thereof, and (b) the flange 3 is attached to the socket 1 by a squaresectioned screw-thread and the sockets 1, 2 are formed with expansion absorbing corrugations.
