Abstract

1,019,691. Clamp fastenings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 31, 1964 [Feb. 25, 1964], No. 7811/64. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] Means for clamping together two coaxial pipes 1 and 11 comprises flanged coupling members 3, 13 each connected or connectable to one of the pipes, at least three C-clamps 25 evenly spaced around the circumference of the coupling members with their claws engaging the inclined outer faces 3A and 13A of the coupling members and a pair of clamp rings 31, 35 drawn together adjustably by bolts 33 so that their inclined under-surfaces press on to the inclined outer surfaces of the C-clamps, causing the inclined surfaces 3A and 13A to draw the pipe connectors and pipes together. In the example described eight C-clamps are used which are held together for transport and assembly by being interconnected by two chains 41 each of which is tack welded at 44 to half the C-clamps used. A ring of packing 21 in a recess forms a fluid-tight seal between the coupling members. The complementary surfaces on the C-clamps and clamp rings may be treated with a non-binding coating of graphite or molybdenum disulphide grease.
