Abstract

904,566. Pipe couplings. N. G. N. ELECTRICAL Ltd., and DEWHURST, A. E. July 15, 1959 [Dec. 9, 1958], No. 39646/58. Class 99(1). A vacuum-tight joint between pipes 3, 4 comprises an annular member 5, having an internal shoulder 5a for location of the ends of the pipes, flange members 8, 9 adapted to slide over the ends of the pipes and recessed at the inner peripheries thereof to receive annular sealing members 12, 13, e.g. O rings, and clamping means such as a flanged nut 14 for drawing the flanges toward one another to compress the sealing members between the member 5, the flanges, and on to the outer surfaces of the pipes. Each end of the member 5 comes into direct abutment with the annular faces of the flanges on assembly of the joint. Alternatively, the recesses, which may be conical, for the sealing members are formed in the member 5. The flanges may be soldered to the pipes.
