Abstract
861,400. Pipe &c. couplings. HAWKE, J. Dec. 4, 1959 [Dec. 13, 1958], No. 40250/58. Class 99(1). A coupling for pipes or rods comprises an axially split sleeve 1 of metal or synthetic material with at least one internal recess 8, housing a resilient sealing member 10, and transverse slots 9 in the split zone of the sleeve which slots open into the recess so as to leave between them relatively flexible jaws 6 which may be drawn together to compress the sealing member on to the pipes 3. There are means, e.g. screws 11, for urging the jaws 6 toward each other to effect the seal, and means, e.g. screws 11 and a steel bar 12, for contracting the remaining parts 5, 7 of the sleeve on to the pipes 3.
